A LIBRARY will host an evening of musical entertainment with a Cumbrian author and musician.

In celebration of Local History Month, Kendal Library is hosting a concert of Cumbrian folk songs and tales at 7pm this Friday (May 19).

Steve Wharton will be performing songs from his new book Contemporary Cumbrian Folk Songs and relating the Cumbrian folk lore behind them.

Steve is a performer, presenter, and media producer with a passion for Cumbria.

He has been writing and performing since 2000 and his new book is an inspiring collection of songs featuring melody notation (transcribed by Ally McGurk), guitar tab, chords, lyrics and comprehensive background notes.

Virginia Taylor, cabinet member for sustainable communities and localities, Westmorland and Furness Council, said: "Local History Month takes place in May each year and helps us to celebrate the rich and long history of our local communities.

"This folk concert is a great opportunity for the community of Kendal to join in those celebrations and enjoy an interesting and insightful evening of entertainment by fantastic Cumbrian singer-songwriter Steve Wharton."

Tickets for Friday night’s event are £2 each and available from Kendal Library or online through Eventbrite.
