Two Kendal College students have won the 26th edition of the National Seafood Chef of the Year Competition.
Studying with the Simon Rogan Academy, Keira Carolan and Dylan Evans won their regional heat with judges returning high scores for their menu.
The competition, open to all full-time and college-based modern apprentice chefs under the age of 25, gives competitors a chance to demonstrate their skills and how to use and source sustainable seafood.
Each year the highly respected competition created by the Grimsby Institute sees teams of two from colleges the UK create a three-course menu using specially selected sustainably sourced seafood species.
This year’s judging panel included seafood consultants and Michelin-starred chefs. The Grand Finale saw the duo claim the overall title of Seafood Chef of the Year 2023, previously won by students from Kendal College in 2017 and 2013.
Marcin Maryniak, Simon Rogan Restaurant Group’s Head of Recruitment, said: "I’m so pleased for Keira and Dylan, their hard work and dedication has paid off and they’ve rightly earned the plaudits as a result."
