A POPULAR choir is preparing for its forthcoming concert.
In this concert, Levens Choir will mark the 400th anniversary of the death of William Byrd and almost fifty since that of Benjamin Britten.
The programme features choral music by arguably the outstanding composer from each of these periods: Benjamin Britten (1913-1976) and William Byrd, the 400th anniversary of whose death in 1623 is being marked this year.
Under music director Gawain Glenton, Levens Choir will illustrate the various dimensions of these two Elizabethan composers’ output, from the Renaissance polyphony of Byrd’s Sing Joyfully to the modernism of Britten’s Flower Songs and more from both composers.
The event will take place at St Oswald’s Church, in Warton, on Saturday, July 8 at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £15, free for children and full-time students, available at www.levenschoir.net, from choir members, or at the door.
