Taylor Swift's hit song about Windermere has tripled the number of online searches for getaways to the Lake District, according to a holiday provider.

After the popstar sang the tune on her world tour the track went viral on TikTok in May with more than 3.4 million views tagged #thelakestaylorswift.

Since then the 'Taylor Swift effect' has been credited by a holiday company for a 311 per cent increase in bookings.

In 2020, Taylor dropped her hit song ‘The Lakes’ which describes the beautiful places found in Cumbria.

Swift's lyrics include: 'Those Windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry. Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die.'

Windermere is ranked second on the list of the National Park’s must-see spots and is a famous subject of 19th Century poets such as Wordsworth and Coleridge who lived there.

After singing across the world during her global tour, her fans were desperate to visit the Lakes and online searches for 'Lake District holidays' shot up during the week beginning June 19.

UK holiday provider Parkdean Resort said that the number of searches across June went up by 217 per cent.

A spokesman for the company said: "Taylor Swift fans are wanting to visit the Lakes as a result of her song, The Lakes.

"Over the past month, we have not only noticed an increase in search volume, but a spike in Lake District bookings also.

"With this in mind, the Lake District is seemingly the go-to UK destination this summer for Swifties and UK Holidaymakers.

"After TikTok went viral in May we noticed bookings started to double."
