A KENDAL based eco-arts organisation are set to host a special Ceilidh to raise money to provide free arts activities to low-income families.

Ragtag Arts will take over Kendal Parish Hall on Saturday July 15 for an evening of live music and an auction of promises.

The organisation, who are based on Mealbank Industrial Estate, divert waste from landfill and turn it into creative and crafty artworks in schools, communities and at festivals across Cumbria and beyond.

Emily Dewhurt, Executive Director of Ragtag, said: “It’s going to be a fantastic night and we’re really looking forward to welcoming friends old and new to get together, have a great time and raise some money.

“All the funds we raise on the night will go towards making sure children and young people from low-income families can come along and get creative with us at Ragtag.

“And, of course, there are some great items on offer in our auction of promises, so you could go home with a real treat for yourself or someone you know.”

There’ll be music on the night from the four-piece Weirdstring Band, performing songs from a smorgasbord of musical genres, plus a hot dinner and homemade cakes.

Lots available in the auction already include a handmade personalised photobook, two-night stay in a yurt, a two-hour yarn spinning lesson, and much more.

The workshops provided using the money raised will give children and young people the chance to use their imagination and find out what can be mafe using scrap materials, building on Ragtag’s ethos of reuse, creation and play.

Tickets to the Ceilidh are £12.50 for adults or £6 for children and can be booked online at www.ragtagarts.co.uk
