The owner of a seafood shop in Ulverston has stunned social media users after posting pictures of an 11kg Scottish Wild Turbot fish.

Owner, 34-year-old Chris Sanders, has fished all his life and says this is the biggest wild turbot fish he's ever seen.

He posed for pictures with the giant outside Lake District Lobster and Seafood Shop on Market Street.

The dad-of-four said: "I've fished all my life and I've never seen a Wild Turbot fish that size. It sold the next day but we did keep the head for a bit to show people just how big it was."

The company specialises in quality seafood such as lobster, crab, cockles, anchovies and much more. Established nine years ago, the shop serves the public as well as supplying hotels and establishments all over the northThe Westmorland Gazette: Lake District Lobster and Seafood Shop on Market Street, Ulverston

Chris added: "Since I left school all I wanted to do is fish. I was a fisherman but decided to cut out the middleman and open my store.

"I've made sure that we pride ourselves on buying fish and shellfish directly from the boats along our local shores bringing the freshest quality and best-priced fish available.

"We like to help the local economy and keep local fisherman in jobs. We only buy from markets where we have to such as salmon from the farmers' market and prawns from Whitehaven.

"We have quite a bit of competition here so we have to make sure we're the best and we deliver as far as Yorkshire, Whitehaven and Preston."

The shop was also visited a couple of times by Hairy Biker Dave Myers in 2016 who is a fan of the shop's fresh fish.

During Covid the shop ran a home delivery service at no extra cost in a Covid safe and timely manner. There are plans to extend the business following the launch a successful sushi range a few years ago.
