Kirkbie Kendal School is a happy place to learn and work. Care, hard work, resilience and curiosity are at the heart of the school and its visitors comment on the friendly and warm atmosphere.

The students are known well as individuals and they are well supported by their form tutors, teachers and pastoral staff throughout their time in school.

Kirkbie Kendal School knows that well supported and happy students will go on to achieve excellent examination results, but more significantly the school believes that developing confident, well-rounded individuals with strong values who can make a positive contribution to society is as important as these results.

The school takes great pleasure in celebrating the many successes of our students, whether they are academic or sporting, whether they take place in or out of school.

The Westmorland Gazette:

Mr Harris, Headteacher, commented, “We have high aspirations for all our students, who work hard and are well supported by our fantastic team of staff to reach their full potential. We know that it is important to share as many careers and future pathways opportunities as possible with students from Year 7 onwards so that they are well prepared for the next stage of their education or employment.

"We are proud of what our leavers achieve once they move on with their journey into the wider community. We are rightly proud of the work that goes on in classrooms every day in school but as important are the wider opportunities for our students. Extra-curricular clubs and activities and trips and visits are a key part of the Kirkbie Kendal School experience.

"For example, the opportunity to perform at the Brewery Arts Centre in one of our musicals, pulling on a shirt and representing the school in a football match or taking part in a debating competition can be transformational experiences for our students and they are as important in the development of your child as the work in the classroom.”

The Westmorland Gazette:

Kirkbie Kendal School’s Year 6 Open Evening is being held on Tuesday 19th September 2023 and preparations are already underway.  Mrs Natalie Oddie, Primary Liaison Manager at Kirkbie Kendal School said, “My job is to make the transfer to KKS smooth and enjoyable for all our new Year 6 starters.   Here at KKS we pride ourselves in delivering a well-structured transition programme to help make the move from primary school to secondary school a great success. Parents and Year 7 students tell us that it works really well, but we are always aiming to make it better each year!”

The Open Evening provides both parents and students with a chance to see the whole school in one evening. Parents will get the opportunity to tour the school, meet with the staff, students and Mr Harris, Headteacher.  Mr Harris will also give a presentation to parents, providing an overview of the school.

The Westmorland Gazette:

Mr Harris also encourages parents and students to arrange a personal tour of the school on a normal working day so that they can see how the school’s four core values of Care, Hard Work, Resilience and Curiosity underpin everything that is undertaken at the school; students can be seen enjoying their learning, their positive relationships and the hard-working atmosphere and wider opportunities the school can offer.

Mr Harris said, “By the end of October your family will have made a decision about which secondary school you would like your child to attend, and we hope that it will be the start of a great partnership with Kirkbie Kendal School.”
