A CAFE has reopened under new management after a couple took on the business.

The Union Jack Cafe, located at 15 Kirkland in Kendal, closed on July 22 after being run for over 16 years by Steve and Sharon Pennicott.

The business was reopened on July 28 by Debbie Evans and her partner Paul Bott.

Debbie's son Daniel Evans is the chef in the cafe who will be making fresh food and homemade dishes.

The family-run business will offer homemade food from burgers to fish and chips.

Ms Evans said the opening day was 'great' and the support has been 'amazing.'

She said: "I'm really excited to be running this place. I used to come to the cafe when I was a kid.

"The Union Jack is famous in Kendal so I was really excited to get my hands on this place."

Mr Bott said: "I'm very excited. I have worked in pubs for the last 20 years in Keswick so it is going to be a big challenge."

This is the first business Ms Evans and her partner have ventured into together.

She said: "It is the first business we have together so we need support from people.

"We are very new so we need people to bear with us but everything we will be making here is fresh food, and all our food is sourced locally."

The cafe offers various dishes, including all-day breakfasts.

Ms Evans added:  "I have got an advert out for local artists to display their work in the cafe. I don't take any commission. It is all free for them and they can decorate this place with some amazing artwork."

The Union Jack Cafe is open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 2pm on Sundays.
