A Kendal café will be closed until next week due to the death of owner's mum. Farit Altinyollar, owner of Café Olive on Stramongate, had to travel to Turkey unexpectedly yesterday (August 2) following the death of his mum, Ikbal Altinyollar.
Ikbal was 89 when she passed away peacefully in her sleep yesterday morning. The Turkish-inspired, Mediterranean-style café gave away food for free to its customers, such as mezes and boreks, that was prepared by Farit before he left.
His partner, Sarah Altinyollar, said: "Lots of lovely customers and friends visited yesterday. Many people wanted to make a donation for the food so that money will go to a charity in Ikbal’s name.
"All the food has now gone and we will be closed now until next week."
