A mountain rescue team were called out to two walkers who became "cragfast" in Far Easedale, Grasmere on Sunday (August 6). The family group accidentally strayed onto difficult ground and became stuck on a crag after they were unable to ascend or descend safely.
A member of the Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team went to the valley to locate where they were and was able to direct the team to the couple. The nine team members then set up a rope system to safely recover the pair who were reported to be very relieved to get back onto better ground.
The rescue took six hours in total.
Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team later gave some tips on its Facebook page encouraging people to be "AdventureSmart" and said: "Ask yourself 3 questions before you set off:
– Am I confident I have the KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS for the day?
– Do I know what the WEATHER will be like?
– Do I have the right GEAR?"
