Residents in Cumbria have been invited by the police to take part in lessons on water safety.

The move comes following a series of incidents in which people have experienced difficulties or required assistance at Fell Foot on the southern end of Windermere.

The South Lakes Neighbourhood Policing Team are hosting the sessions, which start from 9am on September 2.

They will be working with the Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service National Trust and Westmorland and Furness Council, among other parties.

The team will be positioned at Fell Foot and are encouraging locals to get involved to learn about the safe use of water and what to do in emergencies.

Participants will get the opportunity to recreate saving members of the fire crew using lifesaving equipment.

The hope is that the community will grow more aware of how vital such equipment is and how easy it is to use.
