A woman from Kendal opened her first coffee shop at the age of 18.

Lizzi Hesmondhalgh, who only turned 19 on Monday, opened Blend & Brew takeaway coffee shop at Castle Mills on Aynam Road last Saturday (September 30).

As well as coffee and other hot drinks, the shop also serves bacon and sausage baps for breakfast as well as pies, sausage rolls and toasties for lunch.

There are also plenty of sweet treats to have with your refreshment.

Lizzi said: "I worked at Costa for around two years but I wanted to move on and do my own thing.

"I was very inspired by my parents who have always worked very hard for themselves.

"My first job was in a cafe in the Isle of Man at age 16. I actually moved there to learn to drive earlier.

"The coffee shop was my goal so I managed to set up in a unit on an industrial site. In terms of the interior I wanted to stick to that theme so I used metal and wood for inside.

"I've also used things that could be scrapped such as palettes."

In terms of the name of the business, Lizzi said it took her a couple of months to come up with something that was perfect for what she wanted.

The coffee shop is currently takeaway only however she is hoping to get a larger unit eventually so people can sit in.

At the moment, the business is very much just her but she's hoping to grow into a team and expand.

For now, she's just she just getting established and getting to know her customers.

Lizzi said: "So far it's been really nice inviting people in and the ones who work on the site have started to become regulars.

"There's always plenty of new faces coming in too where they've noticed the shop on Instagram or Facebook and just want to see what it looks like.

"We're a really welcoming and friendly place so come in for a coffee, maybe a get a sausage bap and see what it's like."

The shop is open from 8am - 3:30pm Monday to Friday.
