Cumbria in Bloom is set to celebrate the successes of individuals and communities at three awards events.

This follows a summer of visiting gardens and communities across the county for the team of judges assessing the imaginative use of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping.

The ceremonies will be taking place at The Beacon Portal in Whitehaven on October 16, Kendal Town Hall on October 17 and Gosling Sykes in Carlisle on October 18.

Chairman of Cumbria in Bloom Ronnie Auld said: “The advantage of hosting three smaller events, rather than one county award celebration, is that more of the volunteers, the people who work so hard in their communities, get the chance to receive their awards.

"The three events are also a great opportunity for us to say a big thank you to all the volunteers who do wonderful things for their communities, which is so important."

Previously the charity hosted one single award ceremony but, following last year’s successful triple presentations, the 2023 celebrations will be using the same format.

Mr Auld added that the evenings of celebration are also designed to show the charity's gratitude to the assessors who help the judging process.

"Cumbria is a big county and our assessors drive many miles to visit all the entrants in across our categories," he said.

A number of sponsors of the charity will be in attendance to continue their support of Cumbrian horticulture, including Roger Hardy and Tim Troman from Amberol.

Mr Troman, business development manager at Amberol, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Cumbria in Bloom events, as it gives us a great opportunity to speak to our customers face to face and demonstrate our sustainable self-watering planters, that are low maintenance, and save water, time and money."

Local entrants and winners, along with members of Cumbria in Bloom in each area are invited to the events.

The full list of award winners will be published following the final event in Carlisle, and will be available on the Cumbria in Bloom website, along with further information about the organisation's work.
