A SERVICE station is closed to the public after a masked gang stole a cash register in the early hours of today.

Burton in Kendal Services is currently closed to the public and will likely remain closed for some time following an incident in the early hours of today, October 21.

Police were contacted at 2.14am to a report that a number of offenders wearing balaclavas had arrived at the service station and attempted to steal an internal ATM at the services.

Having failed in this, entry to a store has occurred, and the offenders have then stolen a cash register.

They have then driven from the scene.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

As police continue with their investigations at the scene, the services is likely to remain closed for some time. 

However, the petrol station and car park areas are now reopened to the public.
