"Life-changing" support for families living with dementia in Kendal is being provided through free specialist clinics.

The 'Closer to Home' clinics, staffed by specialist dementia nurses known as Admiral Nurses, are set to launch in Kendal on October 24.

The clinics will take place at the Kendal branch of Leeds Building Society on November 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9.

These sessions intend to provide families a secure and confidential environment, to discuss dementia and receive crucial advice and support from specialists.

Helen Green, Admiral Nurse at Dementia UK, said: "We’re proud to bring our Closer to Home project to Kendal.

"It’s been brilliant to see the difference this makes and we are looking forward to supporting people in Kendal in partnership with Leeds Building Society."

According to Dementia UK, their 'Closer to Home' virtual clinics have already help over 3,600 families between June 2021 and August 2023.

The help was made possible in partnership with Leeds Building Society, who have been backing to families across the United Kingdom since 2022.

A recent nationwide survey by Dementia UK revealed that nearly half the population in the North West of England has been affected by dementia.

However, only 37 per cent of people claim awareness regarding support services available for people with dementia and their families in the UK.

Dementia UK and Leeds Building Society embarked on a four-year partnership in April 2020, with an aim to raise £500,000 to help more than 2,500 families dealing with dementia across the UK.

Surpassing their initial target, the group managed to aid a larger number of families and individuals through virtual appointments with specialist dementia nurses.

Richard Fearon, CEO of Leeds Building Society, said: "We are proud to be able to work with the charity to help bring dementia care closer to home.

"We are glad to be able to offer space in our network of branches across the UK to allow this."
