A hotel in the Lake District has officially opened its doors once again after a period of refurbishment.

The team at Langdale Chase near Windermere was joined by Rick Bailey, executive chairman of Daniel Thwaites and Samantha Scott, the High Sheriff of Cumbria, for a reception exploring the newly renovated building.

Owned by Daniel Thwaites, the business has transformed the Grade II listed building and its gardens into a relaxing sanctuary.

Mr Bailey said: "When I first saw Langdale Chase, I was absolutely mesmerised by the view - it must be one of the best in the Lakes, and possibly the country.

"I saw a jewel in the making - an uncut diamond that just needed some TLC, to be invested in and be brought back to life."

It has taken a year to fully restore the hotel, which opened in 1937, with the refurbishments the most expensive to date.

"Daniel Thwaites has done what it does best - our team has pulled together to deliver something extraordinary," Mr Bailey added.

"I know that the new hotel team will grab this wonderful property and really give people a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable experience when they visit."

The High Sheriff explained that the new opening would serve to reinforce Cumbria's 'global reputation' as a place to visit.

Mrs Scott said: "It’s really special to see this wonderful restoration of such an important landmark.

"I love the new modern luxury interiors and how the restoration fits seamlessly in with all the original features of such a historically important building."

The designs and interiors were thought up by designer Jane Goff of Goff Associates, with the 30 bedrooms accompanied by a two AA Rosette-awarded restaurant.

"It gives me great pleasure to formally open the hotel and usher it into a new era," Mrs Scott said.

"I have no doubt about the important contribution that Langdale Chase will make to the ongoing prosperity of Cumbria, welcoming visitors from near and far for many years to come."
