A shop in Kendal will be closing its doors after the Christmas rush after five years of running.

The owners at the Bakehouse, found at Blackhall Yard, have opted not to renew their lease in the desire of putting their family first.

The hope is that the business can keep running into the new year, just not in its current format.

The owners said on Facebook post: "We started this crazy journey five years ago and what a journey it has been.

"There have been some low lows - covid, lockdowns, our shop getting flooded and a few other dramas - but we managed to get through it all and grow our business into something pretty special."

After half a decade in the job, the team have decided to reorganise their work-life balance.

"The decision whether or not to carry on with the shop came down to simply prioritising our family," the post said.

"The last five years have been crazy busy work-wise, which meant not much time at all was left to spend with our little boss and we feel the time is right now to take a tiny step back and slow down a little."

The business will be running as usual up until December 22, allowing the loyal customers they have built up to get their fix of the baked goods on offer.

"We'll only be slowly down a little though as we want the Bakehouse to keep on going," the owners explained.

"We spent so much time and energy on this little gem and we love it too much to give it up completely."

They added that, if anyone was interested in taking over the lease for a 'cute shop full of catering equipment', they should contact the Bakehouse team.
