The Globe Inn, on Market Place, closed in November 2020 during the Covid pandemic however has now re-opened as The Principal.

The pub was previously owned by Thwaites however was then bought by the Mountain Pub Company in November.

The pub had a soft opening on Thursday (December 14) to welcome people in after three years.

Managing director Helen Standing said: "We're really excited to bring this fabulous pub back to life.

"We're in a such a great location in Market Place right in the centre of the town.

"The new name, the Principal, was based on local family connections relating to education.

"We have some fantastic businesses just across the road such as Market Place News and Watson and Woollard Butchers who have been established for years.

"There's no brewery so we have plans to host plenty of local products such as local beers, spirits and gins from the likes of Pennington's.

"We also have some wonderful coffee on offer.

"The pub is such a great venue to watch sports and host live music too.

"We've shown plenty of big games so far and offered free pizza at halftime.

"We're happy to support live music also and we've invited some local musicians to come in over the coming weeks for some great events."
