STAFF members raised more than £3,000 for a homeless charity after sleeping rough for a night.

Kirkby Lonsdale's FatFace staff raised a total of £3174.83 for Shelter after sleeping out on St Mary's Church porch over the night of November 9.

The money was raised for the charity's winter campaign to raise awareness of homelessness in the country.

Jenifer Wainwright, Fatface's regional community fundraiser manager, visited the store in Kirkby Lonsdale on December 21 to present a big cheque.

Manager of FatFace Amanda Blakeley explained they have helped an average of 126 families being supported by experienced housing and legal advisors.

"We need to do a special thank you to reverend Richard Snow for allowing us to use St Mary’s church Kirkby Lonsdale to do the sleep-out," she said.

"We needed cardboard to sleep on. I think everyone in the town brought a box around. Jonny from Kirkby Lonsdale newsagents brought us hot chocolate at 5am, and Mark from the Card Gallery brought us treats, so it was really nice to get lots of support."

The manager explained that next year they are planning to raise funds for Shelter again.

"It’s such a good charity that’s in need of more support than ever before with the housing and cost of living crisis," said Amanda.
