RIVERSIDE House care home in Kendal achieved a rating of ‘good’ in all areas following an unannounced inspection by the Care Quality Commission on 6 December 2023.

This is the second care home to be inspected since Westmorland and Furness Council took control of Adult Social Care services in the area from the former County Council.

CQC found the Wattsfield Road home to be ‘good’ across all five areas they assessed: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. The home provides accommodation and person care for up to 32 people.

The CQC inspection praised the staff and the ‘inclusive environment’ that had been created at Riverside House as well as the ‘person-centred care’:

“Staff were trained and skilled to provide good-quality care, people were supported to have maximum choice and control over their lives and people received person-centred care that met their needs.

“The registered manager had developed an open and inclusive culture in the service”.

One resident told the inspector: "I would highly recommend this home, we are very lucky to be here."

Cath Whalley, Director of Adult Social Care at the council said: “This is our second CQC inspection and thanks to the efforts of the amazing staff, we have once again been awarded a ‘good’ status. It means we are continuing to set a high standard across our care homes.

“Well done to all the staff at Riverside House who have worked hard to achieve this”.

Councillor Patricia Bell said: “I’m delighted that Riverside Care Home has been rated as ‘good’ following the CQC inspection. This is a well-deserved achievement for the staff who have worked hard to ensure residents have a supportive and fulfilling environment."
