A RESIDENT has taken photos of Appleby after Storm Isha, with much of the field for the cricket club underwater.

The resident also took photos from the banks of the River Eden this morning (January 22), showing a fast-flowing river nearly up to the top of its banks.

According to the flood alert page on the government website, the River Eden reached a peak level of 3.74 metres at Appleby last night, when the top of its normal range is 1.8 metres.

It has since returned to normal levels, according to the website.

Appleby Emergency Response Group put an update on social media last night that the flood siren would be sounded at around 9pm. The group predicted flood levels to peak at around 4.1 metres between 1.30am and 2.15am, higher than the levels recorded by the flood station.

An Appleby town councillor said that areas of the town known for issues with flooding have coped well after the storm.

Councillor Ian Mycock said: "The town is always ready for flooding. Flooding is not an unusual event for Appleby. I know the properties on the Sands where the flooding happens most are ok."
