A MUCH-LOVED Lake District forest has partially re-opened after it was closed due to safety concerns caused by recent storms.

The forest was closed from Monday, January 22 to Thursday, January 25 as Storms Isha and Jocelyn battered the county throughout the start of this week.

In a statement, Forestry England Whinlatter said: "Thank you for your patience and staying safe whilst Whinlatter has been closed during the recent weather warnings.

"We are pleased to say that the forest will reopen from tomorrow (Thursday, January 25) however due to fallen trees there will be a number of trail closures in effect.

"Whinlatter's main car park, visitor centre & shop, Cafe Ambio, Whinlatter Forest and Cyclewise shop will reopen from tomorrow (please note that bike hire is currently unavailable from Cyclewise).

"Information on trail closures and diversions will be shared on our social media and website as well as being available from the visitor centre. Please continue to follow all signage (both storm and forestry operations-related) to stay safe as the team work to reopen trails and facilities."
