A GROUP that creates audio versions of The Westmorland Gazette 'urgently' needs more volunteers.
South Lakes Talking Newspaper meets each week on Thursdays at Stricklandgate Methodist Church to put together audio versions of the local news for people with visual impairment or other health issues.
It has been in operation since 1974. Between 45 to 60 people are involved in the editing, reading and dispatch process from the studio. The group operates a website for listeners, but also still sends out USB sticks to people's addresses as a means to consume news.
Dawn Bonham chairs the volunteer group. She said: "We urgently need editors, studio team leaders and copy and dispatch people. The roles are extremely interesting and done on a rota basis so are not onerous in time scales. Maybe one week in four or five you would need to be available for a Thursday morning or afternoon or a Friday morning."
