A CHARITY founder and record-breaking adventurer has announced his toughest challenge yet by running the length of the country in just three days.

Alex Staniforth, charity ambassador and founder of Mind over Mountains, will partake in the SILVA Northern Traverse™ – a 300km run with 6500m of ascent following Wainwright’s coast-to-coast route from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire between April 6-10.

On his comeback from long COVID, last year Alex took on the Frog Graham - the UK’s ultimate swim-run challenge, Seven Valleys Ultra, as well as conquering his fears of open water by swimming the length of Wastwater Lake (3.1 miles) in Wasdale.

The 28-year-old aims to raise as much money for his charity, who offer professional support mental health support through therapeutic outdoor events.

“I’m planning my biggest year of fundraising and challenges yet and this is the start of that,” he said.

“This will be the longest I’ve ever run. I’m looking forward to the next challenge and to see how my mind and body manages a distance like that.

"The challenge is really appealing to me. I’m fascinated to see whether I can really run that far.

“I’m always looking for new ways to challenge myself.

“It’s all about finding new ways to challenge myself, pushing the bar higher, overcoming setbacks and inspiring others along the way.

“I’ll no doubt be running through two nights and trying to have as minimal sleep as possible. The main goal is just to get through it.”

Alex was also delighted to receive the Prime Minister’s Point of Light award in November which recognises the work of volunteers who are making a change in their community.

He added: “It was a nice boost for Mind over Mountains. It’s a very exclusive club. To get recognition from the Prime Minister encourages us to keep on doing the work we are doing.”
