IN 2024, BAE Systems Submarines is set to recruit approximately 700 apprentices and 300 graduates ready to start their career this September across the UK.

With 11,000 people already in its workforce, the business offers some of the very best careers in Cumbria and the UK, delivering the most advanced submarines ever built for the Royal Navy.

From complex engineering projects to world-class cyber security solutions, everyone at BAE Systems plays a part in helping their customers protect what matters most. You can be the future of BAE Systems, finding an apprenticeship programme that allows you to earn a salary while you gain the job-specific training and hands-on experience that will help your career path fly.

If you are curious to learn and ready to grow, there is a world of opportunity. The company offers more than training programmes; it gives you real-world experience in a supportive environment where you can shape your own career.

Bring your talent to a place where you will make a difference from day one.

Applications for this year’s apprentice intake are open now until February 28. Post-GCSE apprenticeships (Intermediate and Advanced) offer trades careers such as fabrication (welding, caulking and steelwork), pipe, mechanical, electrical and office-based roles including IT, business and supply chain.

For those with A-levels or equivalent (Higher/Degree Apprenticeships), available roles include engineering, project management and supply chain. Applicants can make one application at each of the two levels; post GCSE and post A-level and can select three choices within their application.

At the centre of the business’s learning and development is the Submarines Academy for Skills and Knowledge, situated in the heart of our Barrow site, with all the facilities and expertise to help new starters progress through enhanced training and qualifications ready to kickstart rewarding careers.

Phil Athersmith, head of early careers delivery, said: “Early careers are the future of our business; that’s why we invest in them so heavily. The learning environment and the opportunities offered are second-to-none.

"Our business has Royal Navy contracts stretching past the 2030s so we are always looking for the next generation of talent who want to live and work in beautiful South Cumbria.”

A key focus for the submarines business is to ensure it attracts and recruits people from a range of diverse backgrounds.

Phil said: “Our business prides itself on providing a modern workplace with diversity and inclusion embedded in everything we do. I’d certainly encourage people to look at the career opportunities on offer in Barrow.”
