A man has been arrested in Kendal after trying to steal clothes from a local business.

The incident took place on Tuesday, February 6, with Ervin Zouka, 50, also charged for being in possession of a bladed article in a public place.

During a follow up search of his home address at High Cragg Close, further suspected stolen items were located and seized.

The South Lakes Neighbourhood Policing Team lauded the Shop Watch scheme, which allowed the arrest to be made.

Shops are linked through a radio system, monitored by the NPT, allowing officers to respond promptly whenever a suspected theft is taking place.

By the time officers were on the scene on Tuesday, the man was still said to be removing tags from clothes.

Zouka is due to appear before South Cumbria Magistrates Court in relation to the offences
