An independent funeral celebrant is revolutionising the way we think about funerals.

Specialising in alternative settings for services, Zoe Allison-Redfern's business, Farewells and Funerals, moves away from traditional church or crematorium venues.

Ms Allison-Redfern completed her grief recovery method specialist training in 2021, working intensely with clients dealing with unresolved grief.

Her understanding of the connection between the way we say goodbye and our emotional healing triggered her deep dive into the funeral industry.

Ms Allison-Redfern said: "It became clear that how we say goodbye to a loved one plays a pivotal role in how we process grief and loss.

"With this in mind, I began to research the choices offered around funerals and how I could pass on this information to those who have lost a loved one.

"I soon realised that the best way to do this was to play an integral part by becoming a funeral celebrant."

Having found Coffin Club UK, an organisation committed to changing the face of funerals, Ms Allison-Redfern completed celebrant and celebrant plus training.

Ms Allison-Redfern's aim is to empower people to create the send-off they desire, ranging anywhere from a traditional church service to a local pub.

Farewells and Funerals offers an array of services, including celebrations of life, memorials, farewells for scattering ashes, and pet funerals.

She also has plans to offer 'Doing Death Differently', a monthly drop-in session where people in Kendal can learn more about options or even begin planning their own funerals.
