A TALENTED saxophonist from Ulverston has announced she and her ensemble have signed for an award-winning international classical music agency.

Jess Gillam took to social media to reveal her excitement at joining 'Intermusica' - a music management and promotion company based in London.

As a result, she will become the first ever saxophonist to be signed to the major label.

She formed her band, the Jess Gillam Ensemble, in 2019.

They released their chart-topping album ‘TIME’ in September 2020 which has been performed widely throughout the UK and Europe to largely sold-out audiences.

She rose to fame by making history as being the first saxophonist to reach the BBC Young Musician Finals, as well as being the youngest ever soloist to perform at the Last Night of the Proms.

Over a short period of time, her vibrant stage presence and magnetic personality have also seen her become the youngest ever presenter for BBC Radio Three with her award-winning weekly show, This Classical Life.

Highlights of her career to date include performances with the BBC, London Symphony Orchestras, Radio France and Royal Liverpool Philharmonics, to name just a few.

This season will see Gillam debut with the Dresden and Naples Philharmonic, as well as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. She will also embark on a tour with the Manchester Camerata – including a debut performance at the Enescu Festival.

Her solo work will be managed by artist manager Jessica Barra, whilst the Jess Gillam Ensemble will be managed by Maebh Lehane as part of Intermusica’s imagine portfolio.

Sharing the news to her thousands of followers on Facebook and X, she said: “I can’t wait to start this new chapter with a brilliant team. This is just the beginning. Lots of exciting times ahead!”
