A small, family run coffee shop in Arnside has maintained a five star rating after their latest inspection.

Sandpipers is a busy little café on the promenade, which offers coffee, cakes and lunch alongside ‘spectacular’ views across the Bay.

After the sea front coffee shop received a visit from an Environmental Health Officer, they were absolutely delighted’ to achieve another five star rating.

Owned and run by Lee and Lucy Harrison, Sandpipers opened nearly two and a half years ago. They are known for serving Mr Duffin’s Coffee from Staveley, and offering an abundance of cakes, including lots of Gluten Free options.

Lee Harrison said: “We were over the moon to get our second Five star hygiene rating, showing that we implement and demand the highest of standards from ourselves to provide a safe clean environment to eat and drink for our customers.”

Lee described the business as a small friendly, homely coffee shop, popular with locals, cyclists and walkers. He said: “We have team of wonderful staff who have all been with us since leaving college and a lot of repeat custom.”

The café looks over the lake district fells, and Kent estuary, boasting some of the ‘most spectacular views in Cumbria’.

Lee said they either bravely or stupidly took the decision to open their own coffee place just as the UK was coming out of the pandemic and Covid-19 lockdown.

Sandpipers also revealed their plan to extend opening hours due to popular demand, after feeling ‘sad’ over having to turn so many people away last year.

Starting from Easter weekend, the cafe will be open 9.30am to 5pm from Thursday through to Monday so more can enjoy the breakfast menu, lunches, cakes, shakes and ‘famous’ coffee.
