A NEW confectionary store has finally opened in Windermere after eight months of work that involved taking the unit 'back to brick.'

The former charity shop at 35-37 Crescent Road has opened this week as Sugarfinery London.  Sugarfinery is an online business that now has a store for people to buy gifts and sweets, including gelato paninis, macarons and croffles. The business will offer products from luxury brands Chococo, Bullion and Charbonnel et Walker.

There will also be a seating area for customers to enjoy 'real' hot chocolate.

As well as high-ticket products the shop will also sell one-metre cables for £2, the gelato paninis will be £5.95 and Sugarfinery's pick and mix with 96 different sweets starts at £6.95. Many of the sweets are vegan and halal friendly, co-owner Amanda Craggs said.

The shop has a striking light blue and gold facade with a Ferris-wheel horse in the window and planters outside.

"We have had so many people pop in to talk to us," Amanda said. "A lot of them local people. I can't wait [to open], I am so excited. I don't think anybody else in Windermere does this, we're quite unique and new to the area."

The shop has taken eight months of work to get to its current state, as the unit was previously an old Save The Children. The shop has been completely repainted and designed, with only the structural elements around the windows and the doors recognisable features of its past life.

Last week, celebrities Gok Wan and Helen Skelton visited the area and walked past the front of Sugarfinery on their way to the Brew Room, meaning that the shop will already be on TV.

Amanda said the celebrities were looking at the store when they were doing shots outside the Brew Room.

She hopes that the business will get to a point where it is open from 8am to 7.30pm seven days a week in the summer holidays, which will be peak tourist season for Windermere.
