A local landscape charity is urging people across the county to get involved in this year's Great Cumbrian Litter Pick.
The annual spring clean event, taking place on March 22 and 23, is back for its seventh year.
It is organised by Friends of the Lake District.
The initiative endeavours to bring together entities such as schools, community groups, organisations, and businesses, inspiring them to participate in organised events or take individual action across Cumbria.
The charity's aim is to cast a light on the littering issue and give recognition to the vast amount of volunteer efforts dedicated to preserving the beauty of this part of the country.
During last year's event, 270 people collected 90 large bin bags of litter.
Landscape engagement officer, Kay Andrews said: "The Great Cumbrian Litter Pick takes place over two days, but many of the people who take part are regularly out litter picking."
In late 2020, Friends of the Lake District commissioned research on reasons for littering and potential solutions.
The study disclosed that over one quarter of people confessed to littering, also revealing that many individuals expect to find litter bins in even remote valleys and hills.
Ms Andrews added: "The report concluded that there is no quick and easy solution but the more we can spread the message of ‘leave no trace’ the better.
"One way to demonstrate this is through the action of an incredible army of volunteers, tidying up after others.
"One day we hope there will be no need for volunteers to do this."
Everybody is encouraged to participate in The Great Cumbrian Litter Pick at any level, whether making it part of a regular dog walk, family day out, or by organising or joining a community litter pick.
To aid in organisation, Friends of the Lake District has created an interactive map detailing all of the public litter picks taking place in the county.
Individuals interested in participating are urged to keep checking updates as new events are registered.
