A RECREATION of the first UK high-speed diesel-electric train service called the 'Midland Pullman' was spotted on the Furness Line.
The service, departing Barrow in the early morning of Saturday, March 9, was bound for Whitby - hence the name 'Whitby Jet.'
The train, clad in a striking blue livery, drew attention from train spotters and photographers.
Enthusiast Bradley Langton, of Langton Photography, took photos of it rushing through Lancaster on its way to Barrow the day before the Whitby Jet service, and between Cherry Tree and Mill Hill near Blackburn on Saturday, and uploaded them on his Facebook page.
The 'Midland Pullman' draws on the legacy of Blue Pullmans, which were pioneering high-speed trains that operated in the 1960s and the early 1970s.
The current Midland Pullman uses two Class 43 power cars, which were used for the original Pullman's successor the InterCity 125. The train is used for luxury tours of scenic lines across the UK.
