A COUPLE who got engaged at the Eiffel Tower said 'I do' in an intimate ceremony with just them and their daughter.

Katherine O’Gorman (maiden name Suffell), 29, who works as a recruitment consultant and Joe O’Gorman, 34 who has a gardening business, tied the knot in Windermere.

They crossed paths after matching on Tinder and had their first date in a pub.

"I liked that Joe was friendly and chatty. He was very confident whereas I was quite shy," said Katherine.

"He was tall and my type and we just bounced off each other."

The pair got engaged in August 2022 at the Eiffel Tower while Katherine was pregnant with their daughter Robyn.

Katherine said: "We went up to the second from the top part of the Eiffel Tower as the top bit was shut. Joe asked me to look through one of the eye things and then when I turned round he was down on one knee.

"There was a couple who caught a photo as they said they could see Joe rustling around in his pocket for the ring. Looking back now I can’t believe I didn’t know something was going on as Joe was really quiet on the way up which is very unusual for him but I think it must have been the nerves."

The couple eloped to the Briery Wood Country House Hotel in Windermere with only their daughter attending on December 9 2023 - on the day of their first date anniversary in 2019.

"We got married in a really intimate ceremony and it was perfect," she said.

"When we first got engaged with a baby on the way, I thought it would be a long time before getting married. I looked at wedding venues abroad as I always dreamed of getting married on the beach however I was getting so stressed out just by looking at venues.

"We soon concluded that we had made the biggest commitment to each other by having Robyn together and getting married was just the icing on the cake so we decided that we would elope. We also decided that we would rather spend our money on our daughter and also we wouldn’t cope with the stress of it all."

After the ceremony, despite the rainy weather, their photographer Julie Robinson took them to Ambleside to take some shots.

Katherine said: "It absolutely tipped it down so we couldn’t be out there for long but we got some lovely pictures and it was definitely an experience. I was hoping to have lovely photos on the jetty of us walking up and down with Robyn but it just wasn’t possible with the weather but it was out of our control and now we look back and laugh at the rain. Plus I hear it is a good omen for it to rain on your wedding day."

The bride said she couldn't have imagined a better wedding day, even without a first dance or speeches.

"We didn't need that anyway," she said

"We are having a party in May to tie in with my 30th where we can celebrate with all of our family and friends but it will be super relaxed and there won't be any formalities.

After their wedding, the couple spent a week in Centre Parcs in Penrith but for their official honeymoon the couple are travelling to Greece this year.

The couple would like to thank photographer Julie Robinson and the staff at Briery Wood Country Hotel House for making their day so special.
