THE Hairy Bikers team has been 'desperately' trying to remove fake Facebook profiles following the death of TV celebrity Dave Myers.

On Monday, a post appeared on the duo's Hairy Biker's Facebook account requesting followers to unfollow and report the fake profiles to the platform, with the latest one being of Si King.

The team claims they have been trying to get Meta and Instagram to remove the fake profiles for the past two weeks 'without success'.

The post said: "There are instances where a post has a link to a Bitcoin scam asking for donations to a cancer charity in the name of Dave Myers. Rest assured, this is not genuine in any shape or form.

"How you can help us, firstly, if you have fallen for the fake profile and currently 100 have, please unfollow this profile page as your information can be sold on. Secondly, please report the fake profile to Facebook.

"To add to the confusion, the people behind the scam are copying posts that we are genuinely uploading to our own page.

"If you all join in and report the fake accounts, Facebook may wake up when they see some 600,000+ reports in their inbox. #MarkZuckererg take note. We gratefully appreciate your help and kindness. Help us drop this. It's not in the name of the Hairy Bikers. Shocking Meta's lack of action."

The team has also advised people to look for the 'Blue Tick' as the indicator of whether a page is fake or not.

Barrow-born Dave Myers died on February 28 after he shared with fans in May 2022 that he had been diagnosed with cancer.

He chose to keep private what type of cancer he had and passed away at the age of 66.

A book of condolences has been opened at the Forum in his home town so locals can pen messages to the Barrow-born celebrity.
