The Sunday Times has identified 25 locations in the UK that are improving the most and one area in Cumbria has received a special mention.

According to the Times, "They are all on a strong upward curve."

The list includes places with improved transport links and new shops and restaurants, as well as the impact that arts, culture and entrepreneurial energy can have.

Best place for the Morecambe Bay wise

The Times said: "On the Furness peninsula on the edge of the vast sweep of Morecambe Bay, Ulverston has long been popular with downsizers, but now this sturdy market town is also the picturesque choice for families lured by lucrative jobs in Barrow-in-Furness — and the schools are good to outstanding.

"Homes (from about £300,000) along the Coast Road from the village of Bardsea, with its dog-friendly beach, have the best views of the water."

Last month, we reported how there were plans to develop Ford Park in Ulverston.

A design and access statement says: “The proposal is for a new build community facility at the edge of the existing car park and staff offices nestled within woodland just off the car park area at Ford Park.

“The aim is to provide highly efficient, sustainable eco-buildings that will provide additional revenue streams for the community group by enabling larger indoor events to be held on site. The new purpose-built offices for the charity will free up valuable space within the existing Coach House.”

The design and access statement adds: “The new community centre will allow the community group to expand their offer to the community while also creating a community asset for Ulverston.

“The community centre will include an entrance, store, kitchen, WCs, and community meeting rooms/halls with the intention to create a community hub and improve the current facilities on the park.”
