A MUCH loved Cumbrian fell has been named in the top ten spots in the UK to catch a sunset, by outdoor shop Blacks.
The company said it looked at social media data to find out the top sunrise and sunset spots in the UK, with Lake District fell Catbells near Keswick being named number 10 on the list.
In first place is Snowdon. Standing at 1,085m high, it is the highest mountain in Wales. Popular with walkers, it attracts half a million people every year, unsurprising considering the spectacular views from the summit.
Data revealed that the hashtag #SnowdonSunset had generated 526 posts, while #SnowdonSunrise was used on 2,059 posts, bringing the total number to 2,585.
Mam Tor in the Peak District claims the second spot with a combined total of 996 posts associated with sunsets and sunrises, over half less than Snowdon's. The name of this iconic peak translates to ‘Mother Hill’ and has historically been occupied since 1200 BC, firstly by a late Bronze Age fort and later an Iron Age hill fort.
