Three vet nurses will take on the UK's mountains to raise money for animals in need.

The trio are gearing up to take on the National Three Peak Challenge to raise money for The Blue Cross Charity.

Beth Backhouse and two of her colleagues are aiming to summit the three highest mountains in the UK.

They are aiming to complete Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales.

The challenge has to be completed within 24 hours including the time it takes to travel across the country between each mountain.

On Saturday June 22, Beth will embark on her challenge, walking around 23 miles in total and reaching an elevation of 10,052 ft.

Originally from Windermere, Beth said she was feeling okay about the challenge as she has a lot of experience and practice with walking the Wainwrights. But she admits, it’s still going to be tough.

Beth said: “We’ve picked June in the hope of good weather but trying to predict British weather is pointless so we’ll just have to take whatever is thrown at us on the day."

The trio have set up a Just Giving Page for people to donate to their chosen charity, with the hope of raising £500.

The Blue Cross provides specialist care, services and support for pets and their owners. They help by providing veterinary treatment, finding loving new homes for pets, offering behavioural advice, and support with pet bereavement as well as education for future generations.

Beth said: “We’re raising money for the Blue Cross because we all work as registered veterinary nurses so it seems fitting to raise money for animals and their owners.

“Any donations no matter how small would be greatly appreciated.”
