A COUPLE who first met at primary school tied the knot in the Lake District.

Leah Duncan, a 34-year-old nursing assistant, married Michael McAsey, a 35-year-old car manufacturer operator, in Windermere.

The couple, who have known each other since primary school, met again on a night out in 2017.

Leah said: "He bought me a drink and we got chatting. He asked for my number and to join him to watch the fireworks the next day, on November 5. I went into Liverpool city centre to meet Michael and watch the fireworks and the rest is history."

A year later the pair bought a house together and in 2020 they welcomed their daughter Hollie into the world.

They got engaged at the Cragwood Country House for their anniversary weekend on November 6 2022.

"It was a complete surprise. We arrived and took a walk down to the boat house Michael slowed down behind me and when I turned around he was down on one knee in the rain," said Leah.

Mr and Mrs McAsey got married a year later on November 8 2023 at Cragwood Country House as they 'loved' the venue. Their wedding had 17 family guests.

Leah said: "We chose the Lake District as it is our favourite UK holiday destination. We go there often as a family camping and love the scenery.

"I was also 11 weeks pregnant at the time. All our family knew so they were aware I was on non-alcoholic drinks only.

"The day was perfect for us we are a very low-key couple and don't like a big fuss - we mainly just wanted to capture the moment of us getting married and then have a romantic evening just us two as husband and wife.

"Our family attended the ceremony and left around 7pm. Me and Michael had our evening meal and some drinks before taking a huge slab of cake to our room. Our photographer sent us some sample pictures so we ate cake and cried over our wedding photos.

"The highlight was walking down the aisle and seeing Michael’s face. During our vows two fighter jet planes flew past the timing was perfect it looked like we booked them and of course, the gorgeous Lake District weather had clear skies with a crisp autumnal feel."

So far the pair have not planned a honeymoon but they are looking at a family moon that would suit their little girl within the next year.

The couple would like to thank Cragwood Hotel, Tracy Tennant for the hair, Lisa Barr for the makeup and Tiree Dawson for the photos.
