Sai Sachdev returned to Sheffield United to play in the club’s recent Under 21 fixtures but has reported back to Boundary Park ahead of Latics’ trip to Oxford City this weekend.

The youngster, who plays predominantly at right wing back, arrived at Boundary Park in mid-January on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The Oldham Times reported earlier this week that Sachdev’s loan deal had been cut short but Latics have since clarified he remains available and his Blades Under-21s appearances were made following an agreement between the two clubs.

Sachdev started for Sheffield United U21s in their 2-2 draw with Burnley on Saturday and again on Tuesday in their 3-2 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League Cup, in which he was denied by the woodwork.

Sachdev made an immediate debut after joining Latics on loan, starting in the 2-0 home win over Barnet, but has featured only four times since.

After signing the teenager in the new year, Latics boss Micky Mellon said: “Sai fits the profile of what we’re looking for in an out-and-out wing-back.

“He’s young, energetic and ambitious, those are qualities we want to bring to the football club."

Sachdev was named the sponsors' man of the match in the goalless draw at home to Bromley in early March, but that has so far proved to be his last game for Latics, due to a change in formation and later illness.

Right back and right wing back are positions that have changed hands several times this season, with Sachdev, Will Sutton, Liam Hogan, Shaun Hobson and Harrison McGahey all occupying those slots this season, as well as former Portsmouth right back Keiron Freeman, who was on a short-term six-month deal and left the club after 10 appearances.
