Children in the Lake District have the chance to design their own official Doctor Who monster.

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival has teamed up with the Doctor Who Magazine (DWM) to set up a competition for kids aged between eight and 12.

The winning monster creation will be featured in a comic strip in the magazine in 2025.

All entries must be submitted by Thursday, August 1 to be considered for a shortlist of just 15 designs.

The final overall winner will then be picked by a panel of experts consisting of DWM editor Jason Quinn, Doctor Who comic strip writer and former editor John Freeman, and artist Mike Collins.

Doctor Who expert Archie Phillips has also been brought in as a superfan of the show to help the judging process.

The winner will be publicly revealed at the start of a 'Sixty Years of Doctor Who Comics' event at the festival in Bowness-on-Windermere between September 27 and 29.

This will be celebrating the publication of the first ever Doctor Who comic strip, 'TV Comic', back in 1964 - a year after the hit sci-fi show first appeared on TV screens.

Jason, John and Mike will lead a session on the day to come up with a possible story featuring the winning monster, encouraging the public to create a story that will delight DWM readers next year.

They will also reveal some of the secrets surrounding how a comic strip is created, tease some of the upcoming stories, and draw some of the key scenes live on stage.

Submissions for the competition should be no more than an A4-sized piece of paper, which can be sent to comicart@comicartfestival.com or by post to the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, Beatrix House, Kendal Road, Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria, LA23 3FB.

Entries can include the name of the monster, its special powers, and a few extra details in no more than 100 words, along with contact details for the entrant.
