A hospice in Ulverston has gained extra funding to support its dementia services in Barrow.

On Thursday, May 23, St Mary's Hospice revealed that it had received backing from the Power of Music fund.

This injection of money will allow the hospice team to collaborate closely with the Mary Dunsford, a multi-instrumentalist with a decade of experience as a musician in healthcare.

A spokesperson from the hospice said: "Mary will begin attending our Barrow Dementia Café on a monthly basis, offering sessions designed to foster connection through music.

"These sessions will aim to evoke memories, share stories, and bring people together in the present moment through the sheer joy of creating music together."

The Power of Music fund was launched in November last year and is designed to support locally based music and dementia groups to 'revolutionise' the way care is provided across the country.
