The Arla Great North Swim is expected to draw 7,500 swimmers and 20,000 spectators from across the nation this weekend to Brockhole on Windermere.

Between today (June 7) and Sunday, the UK's largest open water swim returns to the region with a range of swimming events.

This includes everything from a 250m dash, to a half mile, one mile, two mile, 5k, and even a marathon 10K open water challenge.

SwimRun, offering an off-road, open water island-hopping adventure, is also back in the line-up.

The Lake District National Park, known for its captivating scenery and rich cultural heritage, plays host to this annual swimming event now in its 17th year.

Participants can explore the splendid surroundings – the land of Wordsworth and Wainwright – throughout the weekend.

Author and former BBC Breakfast presenter, Louise Minchin is set to join the two-mile swim and SwimRun Middle distance.

This year's 'Every Body Swim' campaign aims to show off the inclusivity of swimming and highlight the freedom which the activity has to offer.

English Channel swimmer and guest speaker, Gill Castle, will be sharing her inspiring experiences that led her to become the first person with a stoma to complete the daunting swim.

She will also be swimming at the event.

With other attractions like outdoor activities and adventure play, food and drink stalls, as well as the Lake District Foundation's ‘Pre-Loved Pop Up’ stand, the Arla Great North Swim promises something for everyone.

Steve Tonkin, fundraising manager, Lake District Foundation, said: "The Arla Great North Swim is one of our favourite annual events.

"The weekend has a vibrant atmosphere, with a friendly and generous crowd. After a hugely successful pilot at last year’s event, the Lake District Foundation’s pop-up outdoors gear recycling stall returns."

Laura Butler, strategic brand manager for Arla LactoFREE, said: "The Great North Swim is a truly inspirational event, encouraging people of all ages and abilities to take on their own personal open water challenges."
