The community in Kendal has been rallying around a local bakery after a fire started on the premises.

Owned by husband and wife duo Aidan Monks and Catherine Connor, Lovingly Artisan Bakery shared the news on Friday morning that a 'small fire' had impacted the business.

The incident was said to have taken place overnight between June 28 and 29, with emergency services promptly arriving at the scene.

The owners commented: "We've had a little blip, a small fire.

"The most important thing is everyone is safe - the bakers are all good, [but] our little oven is currently out of action."

Despite the news, the pair reassured customers that they still had a 'plan', not allowing the fire to stop them for long.

They confirmed that their shop in Altrincham in Greater Manchester would remain open, whilst their base at Plumgarths Farm Shop in Kendal would also keep trading.

"We might not have everything in stock but what we do have is delicious -let’s say it’s business as unusual," they said.

The bakery has made a name for itself over the years from its spot in the Lakeland Food Park on Crook Road, and has been the recipient of numerous awards in recent times.

This included being named as Retailer of the Year at the Farm Shop and Deli Awards 2024, as well as triumphing in the Food & Drink Producer category at the North West Family Business Awards 2024.

Aidan and Catherine thanked the local community for their support, which has gone a long way in keeping the business running in the immediate aftermath of the fire.

Ginger Bakers, also found in Kendal, provided access to their ovens for their fellow business owners, meaning that freshly created goods could still be sold.

The couple added: "The greatest gift in the world is love and we have felt it today.

"The team, Shaun, Chris, gorgeous lovely messages from Booths, Brooks, Ginger Bakers, The Altrincham Market crew, Zack and Jen, Peter Gott, Lorraine, so, so many - we can not thank you enough."
