Campaigners for peace in Gaza launched a new petition last week at their weekly vigil outside Kendal town hall.
The petition was launched on Saturday, November 9 by South Lakeland and Lancaster District Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND).
CND members campaign non-violently in South Lakeland and Lancaster Districts with the aim of ridding the world of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.
The group opposes all nuclear, and other weapons, of mass destruction including their development, manufacture, testing, deployment and use or threatened use by any country.
The petition calls on MPs in Cumbria and North Lancashire to tell the UK government four things:
1. End all supplies of arms and arms components from the UK to Israel;
2. Call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza;
3. Recognise the Palestinian state;
4. Join the world in action to stop Israel’s war crimes.
CND Spokesperson, Philip Gilligan said: "At a time when the Royal British Legion has been reminding us of the significance of both 'Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future', it is more important than ever to do all we can to strive for the peace in the world.
"In particular, we need to strive for hope for a peaceful future in places like Gaza, Lebanon, Ukraine and Sudan where war is still raging and thousands are being killed.
"That is why we have chosen this weekend to launch our new petition asking local MPs to call on the Government to do four things that will help bring peace to Palestine.
"We need our MPs to tell Keir Starmer’s Government to do a lot more to stop the daily atrocities being committed by Israel in Gaza, to follow the example of the vast majority of the world in recognising the Palestinian state, and to immediately stop facilitating the supply of all arms to Israel."
