Major retail and commercial bank NatWest has confirmed plans to close 54 high street branches across the UK including one in Cumbria.
The Windermere branch, located at 2 High Street, will close on May 1 2025 with 53 other banks also closing before June.
Physical bank locations have been rapidly decreasing in the five years since the Coronavirus pandemic with more and more customers doing their banking online.
The bank said it had seen counter transactions in its buildings reduce by more than half, when comparing figures from October 2019 and October 2024.
They also report that 76 per cent of personal customers using the branch also chose to use Online Banking or the NatWest mobile app between November 2023and October 2024.
Around 123 personal customers and 81 business customers were visiting the branch each month but it has been decided that this wasn't enough to justify keeping it open.
For those that still prefer to do their banking in person the NatWest branches in Barrow, Kirkby Lonsdale, Kendal and Penrith will remain open.
