Burton-in-Kendal fashion event raises hundreds for charity

The sale of pre-loved and upcycled clothes, jewellery, accessories, and homeware at Burton-in-Kendal Memorial Hall raised £330.75 for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

The event was organised by best friends Jane Vicary and Jan Huntley-Peace, who charged a 'token' entry fee and served refreshments from a pop-up vintage tea room.

"We are also very grateful to my neighbour Pia Poynter, who stepped in with another friend Gail Dodderell, who lives in Levens, to run the tea room.

"They did so at short notice.

"They both never stopped and worked really hard with happy smiles and friendly chat from setting up to clearing away."

Sue Swire, fundraising manager for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, said: "Jane and Jan’s event shows that when it comes to standing the test of time, classic design and quality materials will always be fashionable and that fundraising can come in a variety of styles.

"There’s no one shape fits all.

"We are very grateful to Jane, Jan and everyone involved for the fantastic donation."

The Rosemere Cancer Foundation works to bring cancer treatments and services to patients from South Cumbria and Lancashire.

Patients are treated at the Rosemere Cancer Centre, the region’s specialist cancer treatment and radiotherapy centre at the Royal Preston Hospital and at eight other hospital cancer units across the two counties, including those at the Westmorland and Furness General Hospitals and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

The charity funds equipment, clinical research, staff training, services and initiatives that the NHS cannot afford.
