The Kendal Sea Cadets took part in a beacon lighting ceremony as part of VE Day celebrations.
Held at Kendal Castle, the Sea Cadets Band played before a temporary beacon was lit as a symbol of peace and hope.
The ceremony was part of four days of national celebration to mark 80 years since VE Day 1945.
Civilian Instructor Nicola Brooks said: “Last night was incredible to witness, listening to our band play, seeing our cadets and the army cadets lining the castle, leading up to Warrant Officer Andy Edgar RNR stood proud at the top of the castle playing the bugle.
“Our cadets were honoured to be asked to take part in something so special, being chosen to pay their respects to the incredible service people who gave their todays for our tomorrows.”
The public were encouraged to bring their own torches and lights to create a ‘visual tribute’ that would be visible across the town.
The Sea Cadets will hold a day of celebration in Abbot Hall Park on Saturday, May 10 from 10am-4pm, including a live band, BBQ, games and a raffle.
