Kendal's Brewery Arts Centre is hosting a pottery throwing workshop today.

The "Discover Pottery Throwing" workshop will offer three sessions throughout the day at 11.15am, 1.30pm, and 3.30pm.

Chris Barnes, a professional potter with more than 30 years of experience, will lead the workshop.

With a degree in sculpture, Mr Barnes has been a professional potter since 1992 and has taught pottery to adults since 1994.

The workshop aims to improve the throwing techniques of its participants on the potter's wheel.

It is open to all ability levels, from beginners to those looking to enhance their existing skills.

The workshop will focus on various techniques, including centring clay, improving cylinder height, bowl technique, throwing plates, making galleries and lids, and throwing bellied forms.

Each session will be limited to four students, ensuring individualised instruction and help from Mr Barnes.

Participants will be able to choose one piece to be fired and glazed after the workshop, which can be collected at a later date, usually four to six weeks after the session.

According to the event listing: "Discover Pottery Throwing is a fun intensive throwing workshop that will concentrate on improving your throwing technique on the potter’s wheel.

"Suitable for any ability, whether you’ve never tried it before, or want to hone your existing pottery skills.

"The emphasis is on practice rather than finishing work, but students will be able to choose one piece to be fired and glazed after the workshop which can be collected at a later date, usually 4-6 weeks after the session."

All necessary tools, equipment, and clay will be provided.

Participants are advised to wear old but clean clothes or bring a clean apron, along with a pen, notebook, and glasses if needed.

The workshop is open to those aged 18 and over and will be held in Studio 2 at the arts centre.

Tickets, costing £52, can be booked online at www.breweryarts.co.uk/event/discover-pottery-throwing/.
