Six summer festivals to check out across Cumbria

If you missed out on tickets this year, or you’re already looking for your next festival, we’ve rounded up some of the events on offer across Cumbria this summer.

Basecamp Festival

(Image: Basecamp Festival) Billed as the UK’s friendliest outdoors festival, Basecamp Festival runs from July 4-7 at Gatesgarth Farm in Cockermouth.

The small and friendly festival for over-18s offers a wide range of talks, films, workshops, music and other activities, all set against the stunning backdrop of Buttermere and its surrounding fells and crags.

Langdale Live

(Image: Langdale Live) If you’re looking for a festival to take the kids too, Langdale Live claims to be the ‘ultimate family festival’ offering entertainment for all the family.

Held at Wainwrights Inn on Friday, July 19, the one-day festival is free to attend, with live bands, outdoor bars, face painting and a BBQ feast, running from 12.30-8.00pm.

No need to book, just turn up and enjoy the day!

Kendal Calling

(Image: Kendal Calling) A popular date in the calendar for festival-goers across Cumbria and further afield, Kendal Calling returns to Lowther Deer Park later this month with a diverse lineup and plenty of entertainment for the kids too.

Taking place from July 21 – August 3, this year’s festival brings art installations, world food and ‘Kids Calling’ children’s area with activities, workshops and games to keep children from 0-12 years old entertained.

Tickets sold out in just three weeks, but if you’re keen to get your hands on a ticket it’s possible to register with Tixel for fan-to-fan resale.

Cumberlandia

(Image: Cumberlandia) Returning for a second year, Cumberlandia brings a weekend of folk music and dancing to West Cumbria later this month.

Running in the remote and beautiful Rivendell festival site near Workington from July 25-27, the boutique event has a maximum capacity of 500 people.

With big name headliners alongside local artists and live-mic stages, there’s plenty to discover and enjoy.

Set up by a group of volunteers, the festival has a strong community focus, running free workshops around the area in the run up to the event to learn songs as part of the ‘Cumberlandia Village Choir’.

Tickets are limited, and can be purchased through Eventbrite.

Lake District Summer Music Festival

(Image: Lake District Summer Music) Celebrating its 40th year, the annual Lake District Summer Music Festival takes place next month across a variety of venues.

Running from August 1-10, the festival offers a range of music performances from classical to jazz to world music.

Encouraging musical exploration for all ages, this year’s event hopes to ‘introduce children to the magic of music’, with a programme of family-specific events held in Barrow, Windermere, and Grizedale.

Solfest

(Image: Solfest) Celebrating its 21st year, Solfest returns to its remote corner of Cumbria this August.

Taking place at North Lakes Country Park in Silloth, there will be a range of music genres, arts and family-friendly activities available from August 21– 24.

Priding itself on being fun for kids and adults alike, the festival offers multiple stages, indoor and outdoor workshops and plenty of tasty options to keep you fed throughout the weekend.
