South Lakes: 'She's a Belter' pays tribute to soldier Jaysley Beck

The 19-year-old British Army soldier tragically died in 2021 after experiencing sexual harassment and abuse during her service.

The event, 'She’s A Belter – We All Carry Something, Let’s Carry It Together', was held at Manor House in Oxen Park and raised vital funds for the Centre for Military Justice - a charity that has supported Jaysley’s family since her death.

Jaysley’s mother Leighann McCready said the day was a powerful tribute to her daughter and everyone affected by similar experiences.

She said: "It’s hard to really put it into words, but honestly, it went so amazingly well. I think what’s important to me is thanking everybody who came along and supported the day."

The day ran from 1pm to 11pm and featured live performances from DJ Denis, Men in Hats, Drum Nation, Jay Broom, Daley, Route 66, Under Dogs, Bad Man Soul and Leon Knight.

"I really want to give a massive thank you to the fantastic bands who volunteered their time," Leighann added. "They did it completely free of charge and helped make the day so special.

"The team at Manor House were fantastic as well - they really went the extra mile to help us make the day what it was."

There were also raffles, a barbecue and plenty of community activities. Entry was £5 per person with all proceeds going to support victims of injustice in the armed forces through the Centre for Military Justice.

Ms McCready added: "The 25 skydivers are a big part of this whole thing. Some of them travelled from as far as down south and Scotland.

"Some of us are scared stiff but we’re doing it anyway - to show strength and raise our voices for Jaysley, and for others like her who are still carrying their story alone.

"It was an amazing weekend. Everybody loved it. It was such a fantastic turnout. The whole day helped raise Jaysley’s voice, and that means everything to us.

"A big mention too for Denis Horan who was our compère for the day. He was absolutely incredible. He even led Jaysley’s leaving party so it meant so much to have him guiding the day again."

At the time of writing, the amount raised on the Just Giving page is just over £11,200.
